Elgun Ganizade is an Azerbaijani-qualified lawyer, and an Associate at Fietta LLP. His practice focuses on contentious and non-contentious matters of public international law and international arbitration. He advises and represents private individuals, corporations, and sovereign States before international and regional adjudicative bodies.

Elgun has assisted clients in different industries on various matters of international and cross-border transactions. During his time as a Permanent Mission Intern in Geneva, he conducted legal research on issues related to international law and attended the regular meetings of 50th sessions of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Elgun holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the George Washington University Law School, where he was a Merit Scholar, and served as the Special Projects Editor of the George Washington Business and Finance Law Review, as a Staff Member of the George Washington International Review, and as a Member of the Dean’s Student Advisory Board. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from ADA University, which includes an exchange semester at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Throughout his studies, Elgun was involved in multiple extra-curricular activities, including co-founding and serving as the President of the law school’s first and main student organization, and participating in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition as a member of the law school’s first team, which competed in the competition’s international rounds after winning its national rounds in Azerbaijan. He has been contributing to multiple moot competitions as a volunteer judge and arbitrator.

Elgun specialises in inter-State and investor-State dispute resolution, and his expertise also includes working on different matters of UN sanctions and international human rights law.

Prior to joining Fietta, Elgun gained experience at another global firm, the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, a Baku City District Court of Azerbaijan, and the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan. Elgun has also spent time conducting research on various foreign and comparative law issues at the Law Library of the United States Congress.
